Bratislava

After a morning of scenic cruising, arrive in Bratislava, where guests can join a guided walking tour of the ‘Coronation City’, the location of the crowning of 11 Hungarian monarchs between 1536 and 1830. Stray further afield on a guided bike tour or hike up to Bratislava Castle, with stunning views. The Tastes of Bratislava tour is a must for those intrigued by local cuisine, with goulash and potato dumplings with sheep’s cheese at the top of the menu.

Day 4

Melk

Cruise through Austria’s beautiful Wachau Valley to Melk, famous for its 11th-century Benedictine Abbey, built high above the town and adorned with gold statuary and a huge library housing mediaeval manuscripts. Enjoy a tour of the Abbey with a choral performance or take a hike from the town to this imposing building with fabulous river views for company and join a guided tour on your arrival. There is also the option of a bike excursion around the town, and then in the afternoon, enjoy scenic cruising as the vessel makes its way to Linz.

Day 5

Linz

On arrival in Linz, there is the option of a full-day excursion to Salzburg, where guests can see the house where Mozart was born and, on the way, pay a visit to the Basilica St. Michael where Maria’s wedding was filmed in the ‘Sound of Music’. Stay in Linz and enjoy a guided walking tour of this UNESCO City of Media Arts or hop on a bike for a guided excursion of the city’s Cultural Mile. Celebration of Classical Music River Cruise Review

“We enjoy the great classics like the next person but wouldn’t say we are particularly clued up about music, but the great thing about this cruise is that it welcomes everyone from the tone-deaf to the very well-informed! The tours are informative and well-structured, so they appeal to all levels, and you don’t have to be interested in music to enjoy this great cruise. November might not be your first choice of cruise time, but the winter is actually very atmospheric, with grand balls and candlelight dinners. The whole thing is a complete assault on all the senses. The food and service are five-star too.”
