Day 1
Porto
Arrive in Porto and board your five-star river cruiser.
Day 2
Mateus Palace Gardens
After a morning’s sailing, arrive in Peso de Régua and visit the magnificent 18th-century Baroque Mateus Palace, surrounded by stunning landscaped gardens. In the evening, dine at the Quinta da Pacheca, with fabulous views over the Douro.
Day 3
Castelo Rodrigo
Witness the unique topography of the Douro, navigable via a system of dams and locks that have raised the water level for remarkable views. Visit Castelo Rodrigo, a 12th-century walled village with its Leonese-style architecture and Gothic castle.
Day 4
Salamanca
Regarded by many as Spain’s most beautiful city, discover the delights of this rose-coloured, historic settlement with tiny medieval streets, two cathedrals, and the University founded in 1218. Over lunch, enjoy a traditional flamenco show.
Day 5
Peso da Régua
Arrive in the port wine region and the pretty town of Peso da Régua, where guests can learn all about the different stages of wine production at a historic local Quinta. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a tasting.
Day 6
Lamego
Today, take a short drive to historic Lamego, famous for sparkling wine, and the ancient Sanctuary of Our Lady Church high on the hill. Later, enjoy the Captain’s Dinner, a cruise highlight, and a traditional Portuguese folk music performance.
Day 7
Porto
Arrive in Porto sailing under the city’s spectacular bridges and take a guided tour around this beautiful and historic city, including a visit to one of the famous Port producers. There is also some time to explore at your leisure.
Day 8
Porto
Disembark and transfer to the airport or railway station for travel back to the UK.
