Budapest to The Black Sea Cruise Itinerary

On a round trip beginning and ending in Budapest, cruise down the Danube through the Balkans for the adventure of a lifetime. Enjoy scenic views, visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites and exploring fortresses on this fifteen-day pre-planned dive into the cultures found along this famous river.

Day 1

Budapest (EMBARK)

Fly to Budapest and transfer onto your 5-star cruise ship.

Day 2

Kalocsa

Discover the impressive Baroque Cathedral, grand Archbishop’s Palace and enjoy a walking tour through the town. Alternatively, take a drive to the Paprika house and continue to the Puszta, Hungary’s Great Plain.

Day 3

Belgrade

Enjoy a trip to Kalemegdan Park and a guided tour through the cathedral, Republic Square and Prince Michael Street. Use your free time to explore the Old Town and enjoy a drink at one of the coffee houses.

Day 4

Iron Gates Gorge

Lounge on the sun deck as we traverse the magnificent gorge; a highlight for many passengers. Enjoy the views as our crew navigates the Great Kazan, where the river narrows to just 500ft.

Day 5

Pleven

Use your free time to pay a visit to the St George Chapel Museum or one of the town’s many other museums or simply wander the streets to immerse yourself in culture.

Day 6

Bucharest

Our guided tour will take you to the Palace of Parliament, the former royal palace/national art museum and the Athenaeum. There is also the option of multiple Orthodox churches and squares, including Revolution Square, to pay a visit to.

Day 7

Danube Delta

To explore this bird-watcher’s paradise, we disembark onto smaller boats for an excursion guided by an expert who will point out the fascinating aspects of flora and fauna.

Day 8

Constanta

Today we begin our return passage. Use your free time to visit one of the many museums or simply enjoy the sea air with a portside walk.

Day 9

Veliko Tarnovo / Arbanassi / Ivarno

Explore the Old Town of Veliko Tarnovo, or the remains of the fortress complex on Tsarevets Hill; containing the ruins of Tsar’s Palace and Patriarch’s Palace.

Pay a visit to one of the richly-ornamented mansion houses, or the unassuming Church of Nativity in Arbanassi.

We end the day with a visit to the Churches of Ivanovo, a complex of churches, chapels and monasteries registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 10

Belogradchik

After lunch we moor in Vidin. Use this opportunity to dive into the wilderness and enjoy the views created by the Belogradchik Rocks.

Day 11

Iron Gates / Lepenski Vir

Return to the splendor of the Iron Gates and enjoy a peaceful passage through the heart of Serbia’s Djerdap National Park.

Wander the wooden houses laid out in a fan shape at Lepenski Vir, one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe.

Day 12

Novi Sad

Enjoy a guided tour of this Vibrant City, known as the ‘Athens of Serbia’. See its Town Hall, ancient castle, synagogue and the mighty Petrovaradin Fortress.

Day 13

Osijek / Vukovar

Enjoy a guided tour of Osijek, seeing the main sights and learning about the city’s tumultuous past.

Drive to the historical city of Osijek, tour the Old Town and Upper City with its neo-gothic cathedral. Much of the city has been restored, but some buildings still bear the scars of conflict.

Day 14

Embark on a guided tour, including the Parliament Building, National Gallery and the Matthias Church. Then spend the rest of your day at leisure, perhaps paying a visit to the Castle District or one of the many museums.

Day 15

Budapest (DISEMBARK)

Return to the airport for your flight home.

“My husband and I booked this river cruise for our anniversary. An excellent decision. It was the action-packed romantic getaway of our dreams. It was so peaceful floating through the Iron Gates Gorge – the fact this cruise does that multiple times is simply amazing.”
