Over the course of eight days, guests have the opportunity to venture through and take part in Christmas celebrations spanning Germany, Austria and Hungary.
Throughout this festive itinerary – guests will embark on daily Classic Excursions, a handful of Enrich Activities as well as Optional Excursions across historical sites and cultural staples with Avalon Waterways as your host.

Festive Season on the Legendary Danube Cruise Itinerary
This festive season, take up the opportunity to expand your Christmas spirit during this adventure designed by Avalon Waterways. On this itinerary, guests are conducted across Germany, Austria and Hungary – stopping at coveted tourist attractions as well as a range of festive celebrations.
Day 1
Arrive to Nuremberg (EMBARK)
Arrive in Germany to meet up with your spectacular suite ship – home for the next 7 nights.
All guests must board the ship by 5pm.
Day 2
Nuremberg
Spend your first day on one of two Classic Excursions arranged by Avalon. Either embark on a guided tour of Nuremberg’s tourist highlights or pay a visit to the Nuremberg Rally Grounds.
This afternoon, spend your free time browsing the city’s breathtaking Christmas Markets.
Day 3
Regensburg
Today’s Classic Excursion sends guests on a guided city walk around Regensburg’s historical highlights. Afterward, guests enjoy a free afternoon to explore this port’s festive markets.
Back on board – a Discovery Excursion provides guests with an informative lecture on Germany’s Christmas Traditions.
Day 4
Passau
Guests join a guided city walk as part of today’s Classic Excursion – concluding with free time to explore Passau’s charming Christkindlmarkt. Alternatively, you may wish to embark on a full day Optional Excursion to Salzburg.
Day 5
Melk / Wachau Valley / Vienna
Today’s Classic Excursion in Melk brings guests on a guided tour of the magnificent Benedictine Abbey.
Later, guests enjoy a Discovery lecture about Christmas Traditions back on board during the day’s sailing portion.
This evening, in Vienna, guests can join an Optional Excursion to a Royal Waltz Concert.
Day 6
Vienna
Join a guided tour of Vienna’s landmarks for today’s Classic Excursion. Later, spend your free time exploring the Christkindlmarkt or join an Optional Excursion to Schonbrunn Palace.
Day 7
Budapest
Embark on a Classic Excursion sightseeing through Budapest. As we dock overnight in Budapest – you may wish to continue adventuring through the evening into the city’s nightlife.
Day 8
Depart Budapest (DISEMBARK)
This morning, after a hearty breakfast, disembark your ship and begin journeying home.
