Peruvian Amazon & Machu Picchu Exploration Cruise Itinerary

Uncover hidden treasures and the unique scenery and biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest on this 15-night cruise. Stay in five-star hotels and enjoy time aboard a luxury ship on one of the world’s most famous rivers. Visit the Sacred Valley, the heart of the Inca Empire, explore ancient Machu Picchu, and discover Lima, the ‘City of Kings.’ Excursions include a choice of walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing and kayaking. The luxurious Aria Amazon provides an intimate, boutique hotel experience with tours led by expert historians and naturalists.

Day 1

Lima

Arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima to a warm welcome from your Uniworld representative. Check into the Country Club Lima Hotel.

Day 2

Lima

Enjoy a panoramic drive of the ‘City of Kings’ founded in 1535, including the coastline around the city in Miraflores. Then stop at Lima’s Plaza San Martin and Plaza de Armas. Later, visit Casa Aliaga and enjoy a private tour led by a family member.

Day 3

Lima, Fly to Iquitos (Nauta), Embark

Check out of the hotel and travel to the airport for a flight to Iquitos. With a guide, explore this captivating city including beautiful views over the Nanay River. Embark the Aria Amazon and enjoy a special Welcome Reception dinner.

Day 4

Ucayali River, Clavero Lake Yarapa River

Discover the headstream of the Amazon, the Ucayali River where guests can also learn about indigenous communities. Kayak, canoe, or swim in the waters of Clavero Lake. In the evening, enjoy a sunset wildlife cruise of the Yarapa River.

Day 5

Amazon River, Tahuayo River, San Pedro Forest

Take a voyage of discovery with an expert naturalist who introduces guests to the incredible flora and fauna of the Amazon. Passengers can also explore the Tahuayo River and after lunch, there is a jungle walk through the forest of Puerto Prado.

Day 6

Nauta

Nauta sits between the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers and has a colourful and vibrant market with unique and exotic fruits like Camu Camu and Maracuya. Later, journey to the source of the mighty Amazon with lush greenery and giant water lilies.

Day 7

Marañón River, Yanayacu-Pucate River, Amazon River

Cruise the Marañón River like a local and spot wildlife like Taricaya turtles, exotic plants, and 64 rare bird species. Guests can explore the Yanayacu Pucate River on a skiff and visit an Amazon village. There is also an opportunity for piranha fishing.

Day 8

Samiria River, Ucayali River

Fish the tranquil waters of the Samiria River with the help of an expert naturalist. In the afternoon, guests explore the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve by kayak, canoe, swim or jungle walk. At dusk, enjoy a sunset cruise along the Ucayali River.

Day 9

Puerto Prado Forest, Amazon River

Cruise the Marañón River by skiff, a great way to see the lush vegetation and wildlife of the Amazon rainforest. In the afternoon, visit an indigenous village in the Puerto Prado Forest and learn about life in a rural community.

Day 10

Nauta (Iquitos), Disembark, Fly to Cusco, Urubamba (The Sacred Valley)

Enjoy an insightful morning walk through Nauta, where Amazonian villagers gather to trade before bidding farewell to the Aria Amazon. Travel to Iquitos Airport and fly to Cusco, where guests check into the Tambo del Inka Hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Day 11

Urubamba (The Sacred Valley)

Enjoy a day of leisure at the luxurious Tambo del Inka with relaxing treatments at the Kallpa Spa, or take a dip in the heated pool. Savour delicious Andean cuisine. Guests can explore on their own with plenty of historical sites close by.

Day 12

Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu)

Explore the Sacred Valley. A guide will take you to Moray where guests can see a display of traditional Peruvian weaving, and Ollantaytambo with its impressive fortress. There is a visit to a local family home before a train ride to Aguas Calientes.

Day 13

Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu), Cusco

One of the world’s ‘must see’ archaeological sites, Machu Picchu is a hidden remnant of the Inkan Empire and only rediscovered in the 20th century. Lunch at the famous Sanctuary Lodge before travelling by coach to the Palacio del Inka Hotel in Cusco.

Day 14

Cusco

Enjoy a tour of Cusco, the heart of the Inkan Empire, and experience a colourful blend of Andean cultures with Spanish colonial influences. Visit Sacsayhuamán, the Inkan ceremonial fortress, and the Renaissance-style cathedral before dining in the San Francisco Monastery.

Day 15

Cusco, Fly to Lima

Take a walking tour through the San Blas neighbourhood in Cusco and visit the Hilario Mendivil Museum, with iconic pictures of saints with long necks! Lunch at a local restaurant and then return to Lima and check in at the Wyndham Costa del Sol Hotel.

Day 16

Lima

Your guide will walk with you the short distance from the Wyndham Costa del Sol Hotel to Lima International Airport for flights back to the UK.
