The 5 Best TUI River Cruises in 2026 and 2027

30 Apr 2026

TUI is one of the most recognised names in British river cruising. Flights included, fully board-inclusive fares, and a modern fleet make it an easy choice that we can recommend with confidence. But with dozens of itineraries across the Danube, Rhine, Moselle, Douro and Nile, knowing which ones actually deliver can be hard to judge before you book.

We book TUI river cruises for our customers every day. Our concierge team works directly with TUI, negotiates on our clients’ behalf, and hears the feedback when guests get home. The five itineraries below are ranked by verified customer ratings from our own listings.

No padding. No sponsored placements. Just the best TUI river cruises that score highest with the people who have actually sailed them.

1. The Moselle Valley: Vines and Views

Best for: Wine lovers

Rating 4.7 ★ from 536 verified reviews
River Moselle
Ship TUI Isla
Duration 7 nights (8 days)
Route Frankfurt, Koblenz, Traben-Trarbach, Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem, Boppard and Oberwesel, Frankfurt
Highlights Marksburg Castle, Nurburgring tour, underground wine cellar at Traben-Trarbach, Hammes Winery visit, Reichsburg Castle at Cochem
From £1,508 per person (return flights, full board plus and transfers included)
Best for Wine lovers

Rolling vine-covered hillsides, ancient hilltop fortresses, and medieval towns that have
barely changed in centuries line this quietly extraordinary river as it winds through the heart of Germany.

The Moselle Valley: Vines and Views itinerary is built around experiencing all of it properly. A guided descent into an underground wine cellar at Traben-Trarbach is genuinely memorable. The walking tour of Bernkastel, with its perfectly preserved half-timbered market square, is the kind of afternoon that makes you want to extend your stay. For guests who appreciate a good glass of wine (or two!), this itinerary delivers at every turn.

The ship is TUI Isla, one of the newer vessels in the TUI fleet. Its wellness suite is a genuine step above what you would typically find at this price point, and guests who have sailed it consistently remark on the quality of the onboard experience.

With 536 reviews averaging 4.7 out of 5, this is not a case of a handful of enthusiastic early bookers inflating the score; that is sustained satisfaction across a substantial volume of real passengers.

Moselle Valley: Vines and Views — Crui.se Customer Review

“My recent voyage on the Moselle Valley cruise was nothing short of incredible. The shore excursions were extraordinary, especially the visit to an underground cellar with wine tasting in Traben-Trarbach. The Boppard to Koblenz cycle ride was a thrilling adventure too.”

Matthew Harrington, City of
Westminster

2. Rhine Explorer

Best for: First-time river cruisers

Rating 4.7 ★ from 523 verified reviews
River Rhine
Ship TUI Isla or TUI Aria (varies by departure)
Duration 7 nights (8 days)
Route Amsterdam, Cologne, Koblenz, Speyer, Strasbourg, Breisach, Basel
Highlights Amsterdam canal cruise, Cologne Cathedral, Heidelberg Castle, German Wine Route, Breisach wine tasting, Strasbourg old town
From £1,108 per person (return flights, full board plus and transfers included)
Best for First-time river cruisers

Amsterdam to Basel, four countries, seven nights. The Rhine Explorer covers more cultural ground than almost any other TUI itinerary and does so at one of the most competitive price points on this list. It is the itinerary we most frequently recommend to guests embarking on their first river cruise, because the breadth of it suits so many different travelling styles. History, architecture, food, wine, cycling, art. Something genuinely rewarding waits at every port.

The two opening days in Amsterdam set the tone beautifully. Candlelit canal cruises, a hop-on hop-off city tour, or a visit to Edam and the windmills at Zaanse Schans. Cologne Cathedral is one of the great Gothic masterpieces of Europe, and Heidelberg Castle, perched somewhat dramatically above the old town, makes for one of the finest excursions on the entire itinerary. Guests who appreciate a fine local wine (and there are plenty along the Rhine) will find no shortage of tastings. Those who prefer to explore on two wheels can join a guided cycle through Breisach.

With 523 reviews at 4.7 out of 5, the Rhine Explorer earns its place near the top of this list on merit.

Rhine Explorer — Crui.se Customer Review

“We embarked on an incredible journey aboard the Rhine Explorer cruise. It was an experience that felt genuinely incomparable to any trip we had been on before. The Amsterdam Hop-On Hop-Off tour allowed me to explore at my own pace. Our visit to Cologne Cathedral was awe-inspiring.”

Evelyn and Benjamin Langley,
Lancaster

3. East Danube Explorer

Best for: Adventurous travellers seeking lesser-visited destinations

Rating 4.7 ★ from 322 verified reviews
River Danube
Ship TUI Maya
Duration 7 nights (8 days)
Route Budapest, Kalocsa and Mohacs, Novi Sad, Iron Gates and Donji Milanovac, Belgrade, Vukovar, Budapest
Highlights Iron Gates gorge scenic cruising, Decebal’s Head rock sculpture, Church of St. Sava in Belgrade, Vukovar water tower and
museum, Kalocsa Paprika Museum
From £1,092 per person (return flights, full board plus and transfers included)
Best for Adventurous travellers seeking lesser-visited destinations

The majority of Danube river cruises head west from Budapest, through the polished Austrian wine villages and into Vienna. It is a wonderful route, and you will find two versions of it further down this list.

The East Danube Explorer charts a completely different course, pushing south and east into Serbia and Croatia. For travellers who have done the classic central
European circuit and want something genuinely new, this itinerary opens up a side of the Danube that feels almost entirely undiscovered.

The Iron Gates gorge is among the most breathtaking natural spectacles on any European river cruise. As the TUI Maya passes through, the dramatic 40-metre rock carving of Decebal’s Head emerges from the cliff face. It is the kind of sight that stops conversation. Belgrade, meanwhile, tends to surprise people. It is a city with real character, a captivating mix of Ottoman, Habsburg and Yugoslav heritage, and a food scene that has become one of the most exciting in southeastern Europe. Vukovar adds a more contemplativenote, its water tower and museum bearing witness to a remarkable story of resilience.

At £1,092pp with flights included, the East Danube Explorer represents outstanding value for what it delivers.

East Danube Explorer — Crui.se Customer Review

“I really enjoyed my stay aboard the TUI Maya. As a solo traveller, the staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and entertainment throughout. There was definitely no shortage of things to do.”

Molly Anderson, Nottingham

4. Danube Treasures

Best for: Classic central Europe first-timers

Rating 4.7 ★ from 122 verified reviews
River Danube
Ship TUI Isla or TUI Maya (varies by departure)
Duration 7 nights (8 days)
Route Budapest (embark), Bratislava, Durnstein and Melk, Linz, Vienna (2 nights), Budapest (disembark)
Highlights Wachau Valley cruise, Melk Abbey, Durnstein village and castle ruins, Vienna Grand Opera, Schonbrunn Palace, Budapest parliament and Jewish District
From £1,058 per person (return flights, full board plus and transfers included)
Best for Classic central Europe first-timers

Danube Treasures is the quintessential TUI Danube river cruise. Three of central Europe’s most captivating capital cities, the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, and two full nights in Vienna to explore at a genuinely unhurried pace. Most river cruise itineraries afford you an afternoon in a capital city before moving on. Danube Treasures gives you the time to actually appreciate Vienna properly. The Grand Opera, Schonbrunn Palace, and the legendary Viennese coffee houses. It is a meaningful difference.

The Wachau Valley is widely considered one of the most scenic stretches of river in all of Europe, and sailing through it on a clear morning is an experience that stays with you. Melk Abbey rises dramatically from a rocky promontory above the water, a truly awe-inspiring sight. The village of Durnstein, with its cobbled lanes and crumbling castle ruins perched on the hillside, is one of those places that looks almost too picturesque to be real. Budapest, at both ends of the itinerary, provides the perfect bookend. At £1,058pp including flights, this is exceptional value for the quality of experiences on offer. The review count sits at 122 simply because it is a newer listing with us, but that 4.7 out of 5 score is entirely consistent with what our clients tell us when they return.

Danube Treasures — Crui.se Customer Review

“My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves on this river cruise. Even though we had visited most of the ports before, the quality of the excursions allowed us to see everything through a new lens.”

Jodie Miller, Preston

5. Magical Danube

Best for: Culture and history enthusiasts

Rating 4.6 ★ from 563 verified reviews (highest review count on this list)
River Danube
Ship TUI Isla or TUI Skyla (varies by departure)
Duration 7 nights (8 days)
Route Budapest, Bratislava, Krems, Passau, Linz, Vienna, Budapest
Highlights Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna evening concert, Bratislava cooking class and Devin Castle, Krems monastery wine tasting, Passau beer tasting, Budapest folklore dinner and show
From £1,165 per person (return flights, full board plus and transfers included)
Best for Culture and history enthusiasts

TUI’s Magical Danube itinerary shares several ports with Danube Treasures, but the character of the two itineraries is quite different. Where Danube Treasures is curated around iconic landmarks seen at their finest, the Magical Danube is designed to go considerably deeper into the culture and soul of each destination.

A hands-on cooking class with a Slovakian family in Bratislava. A monastery tour paired with a wine tasting in Krems. An evening concert in Vienna rather than a daytime visit. Authentic beer tasting at one of Passau’s most characterful old taverns. A traditional Hungarian folklore dinner and show in Budapest. These are experiences that stay with you long after the cruise is over, and make for some truly Magical (see what we did there?) memories.

It is worth noting that the Magical Danube carries the highest review count of any TUI itinerary on this list. 563 verified reviews at 4.6 out of 5 is a more meaningful endorsement than a perfect score from a handful of passengers.

That volume of consistent feedback reflects an itinerary that reliably delivers. We also have a Save up to £300 TUI offer currently available for sailings between March 2026 and October 2027, making this a particularly well-timed moment to enquire.

Magical Danube — Crui.se Customer Review

“This was our first river cruise and we booked the Magical Danube on the TUI Skyla. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I would highly recommend it. The food was good, the room was comfortable and the staff were charming and helpful throughout.”

Theresa, Surrey

How We Ranked These TUI Itineraries

These rankings are based on customer review scores drawn directly from our own itinerary listings. Where scores were equal, as they were across four of the five itineraries at (4.7 out of 5), we applied
review volume as the tiebreaker, treating a higher number of consistent ratings as the more reliable indicator of sustained quality.

We excluded short-break departures and purely seasonal sailings such as Christmas market and New Year cruises, keeping the comparison focused on year-round itineraries with sufficient data to draw meaningful conclusions.

Our concierge team books TUI river cruises every week. We know the product, the ships and the excursions from first-hand experience, and we can say (with a glass of wine in hand) that these are the five itineraries we would confidently recommend to anyone considering a TUI river cruise in 2026 or 2027!
