In a bold move that’s set to shake up the world of river cruising, Celebrity Cruises has announced it will launch its first-ever river cruise itineraries in 2027, starting with two legendary waterways: the Danube and the Rhine.
The news came directly from Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge during the 2025 President’s Cruise. Speaking to guests onboard Celebrity Apex, she confirmed that the Danube and Rhine topped the destination wishlists of Celebrity travellers — and that more rivers across Europe are on the horizon.
Expect to see the first ships launching in 2027, with the fleet expanding gradually through 2029. Destinations teased during the announcement include Amsterdam, Cologne, Vienna, and Budapest, with a possible nod to the Seine in Paris for future itineraries.
While full onboard details are still under wraps, Celebrity is aiming to deliver an all-inclusive river experience, including drinks, Wi-Fi, and at least one shore excursion per port. Optional upgrades will likely be available for those wanting something a little extra.
As we wait for more details, one thing’s certain – Celebrity’s signature style is heading inland, and the rivers of Europe are about to get a whole lot more luxurious.
